Chrysophyllum cainito - Cainito - Star Apple - (Sapodilla Family - Sapotaceae) is a beautiful tree cultivated for its sweet, round, edible fruits and as shade tree. The leaves are hairy on the underside and have a redish to golden-brown colour which makes the tree stunning in any garden (the images are from a tree in my garden). The sap of tree and leaves and fruits is milky white and sticky (one can see some on one of the berries in the images below). The very small purple-white flowers are in clusters at the base of the leaves. The tree is a native of the Greater Antilles but is now cultivated in many areas of the world.
